Books That Aren't Published Yet and I Can't Wait to Read

These are all books that are coming out this summer and this fall.

I feel quite certain I will add to this list when I go to BookExpo next week.

What are you looking forward to? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Summer's Here and I'm Headed to NYC!

No, I haven't left yet, but I'm flying out Wednesday. How many books have been made in New York? I'll be breathing in literary air every day there, I think. I hope I can bring a bit of that home with me.

What will I be doing in NYC? Meeting with publishers. Talking to authors. Snapping photos. Taking notes. Officially, I'll be the online media for Armchair BookExpo. With a media badge and everything.

Have you signed up yet for the at-home version of BookExpo? It's not too late. Sign up here.

WHAT ARRIVED THIS WEEK

Two big boxes of books for review, from two wonderful publishers, Bearport and Arte Público Press:

I couldn't help myself; I just had to read and review Una vida con suerte/A Charmed Life and Ghost Ship. I feel confident that these will be books the children at my school library will love.

WHAT I READ THIS WEEK:  BOOK-A-DAY

I continued on my path to read a #bookaday this summer. It was fun to make a wishlist at my public library's Overdrive and, with 387 titles I can download at a moment's notice, I don't think I'll run out of books to read this summer. I read Have You Seen Elephant? and Princess Sophie and the Six Swans, along with the 1963 classic, Summer by Alice Low, as well as Pharrell Williams' Happy (yes, it's just the song, but with wonderful illustrations). I finished a couple of children's New York books and (I swear!) my body is still vibrating from reading The Hate U Give.

WHAT I'M READING NOW

I've got Brooklyn and Alexander Hamilton and D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths and Before We Visit the Goddess and Havana: A Subtrophical Delirium and Salt to the Sea.

Oh I love summer.

What are you reading today?

What is the Sunday SalonImagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book. Click here to join the Salon.

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It's a chance to share news and recap the past week.

Mailbox Monday was created by Marcia at The Printed Page. We share books that we found in our mailboxes last week.
It is now being hosted here.

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews in which you can share the books you've acquired.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between!  This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from! I love being a part of this and I hope you do too! It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is now being hosted at The Book Date.

Chapter Book Club Picnic

The sign says: "I read ten chapter books. How about you?" Left, first graders. Right, second graders.

I feel so proud of the 127 first and second graders at my school who read ten chapter books this year!

Summer!

My summer starts this Friday (at noon, in fact). I love my job as a school librarian, but I am so, so ready for summer this year.

My plans for summer are simple: I'm doing #bookaday, so I plan to read a book every day during the nine weeks I am off. I'm going to BookExpo America (BOOKEXPO AMERICA!) next week, and I can't wait for that. I'm planning to work on my book a little every day and practice my Spanish and walk mornings and swim and do yoga...but that's it. Nothing else. Nine weeks of rest and relax.

I've made some Summer Reading Rules I thought I'd share with you. See what you think....

SUMMER READING RULES

1. Read anything you want.
2. Read any time you want.
3. Read any place you want.

That's it.

I realize these are pretty stringent rules, but I encourage you to try to follow them as best you can.

What are you doing this summer?

Good Grief, It's Almost Summer!

Two things that makes my heart go pitter-patter today:

1. My summer starts in (woo hoo!) five days!

2. I will be going to BookExpo America in ten days!

WHAT I READ THIS WEEK (7 Books = A Book a Day!)

I think one of these may be the best book I read this year. Can you guess which one?

WHAT I'M READING NOW

Will you be at BookExpo? Let me know if I should look for you in NYC. If you can't make it this year, are you planning to attend Armchair BookExpo? It's not too late to sign up. Register here.
